where playwrights go to work out

participants meet for four hours: the first half is devoted to reading a play or reading about a theory of the theatre; the second half is devoted to writing a play based on the lessons you observed through the first part. We think this is an innovative way to keep sharp and learn more about the craft of playwriting.

it is recommended that participants bring their own copy of the play or reading that will be covered.

Philip Ridley: Mercury Fur

Date & Time: November, 2009 TBA
Location: TBA

About Philip Ridley: Philip Ridley is a playwright hailing from the United Kingdom who's plays include The Fastest Clock in the Universe, Piranha Heights, The Pitchfork Disney and Mercury Fur. Ridley's plays are characterized by a deep and unsettling darkness. They are set in worlds in which humanity's deepest and darkness impulses lack basic controls. In the midst of these worlds, however, can be found shreds of humanity, kindness, and love where you least expect them.

About Mercury Fur: Mercury Fur tells the story of a gang of youths in descimated East-End London as they prepare for a "party" they're throwing for a very special client. This play is dark and deeply funny.
